The National Archaeological Museum occupies a group of XVI century buildings which were originally intended to house the royal cavalry, and then became the seat of the university from 1610 to 1777. The collections comprise mainly works of art belonging to the Farnese family and treasures discovered at Pompeii and Herculaneum. It is one of the richest museums in the world for Greek and Roman antiquities.

POMPEII MONUMENT OF THE DAY
This is one of the patrician houses which were built in the shelter of the town walls during the first imperial age. The various rooms of the residence are laid out in terraces descending the natural slope of the hill on which the town of Pompeii was founded and thus enjoy a fine view over the Gulf of Naples. RECIPE OF THE DAY OF THE ANCIENT POMPEII
(Apic. 3, 2, 4) Ingredients:
- 8 small beetroot
- 100 ml mead (or sweet white wine with a tablespoon of honey)
- 40 ml olive oil
- Chicken pieces part-cooked in the oven (about 15 chunks)
- Sea salt
- Black pepper to taste
Instructions:

Cleaned well the beetroot, put them in a saucepan and add the mead, olive oil, salt and pepper and enough water to cover. Bring the liquid to the boil, add the chicken and continue cooking until the beetroot are done. Drain and serve immediately.
